We see in Colossians 1:25-27 that Paul was given the mission to fulfill (complete) the word of God. We see in these verses, that this was a mystery (not prophesy) given to Paul to share among the Gentiles. The Bible tells us that the Jews were given prophesy and that the Gentiles were given the mysteries which are recorded in Paul’s thirteen epistles.

Colossians 1:25-27

25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God;

26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Paul also tells us in I Corinthians 13:8-10 that when that which is perfect comes, then that which is in part will be done away with. Paul is telling us in these verses that when he completes the word of God, then speaking in tongues and other miraculous events would cease since God’s word would provide everyone with all that is needed.

I Corinthians 13:8-10

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

What Does This Mean For Us Today?

It means that Paul completed the Bible – the word of God. It means that when Paul completed his 13 epistles, that there was no longer a need to prophesy and speak in tongues. What this means is that anything that is extra-biblical is not of any use for us today.

There are those today who claim to prophesy and speak in tongues. They are not speaking for God, but for Satan.

There are those today who tell others that they have divine revelations from God that is written for their members. They are not speaking for God, but for Satan.

Satan is the world’s greatest deceiver and liar. In God’s word, we see that Satan can transform himself into an angel of light, and that his ministers can be transformed as ministers of righteousness.

II Corinthians 11:14-15

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Please do not be deceived by Satan or his ministers. In Romans 12:2 Paul tells us “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Our minds are renewed by studying God’s word. As we study God’s word, we become more mature in our faith. Knowing God’s word is necessary in understanding what is of God and what is of Satan.

Something To Ponder

If your church does not tell you what is of Satan – then can you really trust them to tell you what is of God?
