Two Gospels – Two Types of Holy Spirit Dwelling
God has given His Holy Spirit to believers in both an external dwelling manner and an internal dwelling manner. Those in the past who were saved by belief of the gospel of the kingdom were given an external dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Those that are saved by believing the gospel of the grace of God receive an internal dwelling of the Holy Spirit. All of the saved that enter into the future Millennial Kingdom will receive an internal dwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The Gospel of the Kingdom – An External Dwelling
In I Peter 4:14 Peter tells the Jews that believed in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Messiah that if they are insulted or reviled for their belief in Jesus Christ, that they are blessed because God’s Holy Spirit rests upon them. This was a message to those believers that God was with them during their trials in as much as they were partakers of Christ’s sufferings.
I Peter 4:14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
In Acts 2:38 we see the first occurrence of the Holy Spirit being given to believers of the gospel of the kingdom.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The external dwelling of the Holy Spirit given to believers of the gospel of the kingdom could be taken from them. In Matthew 24:13-14 we see Christ speaking of the coming Tribulation where the gospel of the kingdom will be preached and that one must endure till the end to be saved.
Matthew 24:13-14
13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Christ Received the Holy Spirit Upon His Baptism
In Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22 and John 1:32-34 we are told of the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist. The baptism of Jesus Christ was a ceremonial baptism as Jesus Christ will be the High Priest of the nation of Israel in the future Millennial Kingdom.
In John 1:32 John tells us that he saw the Holy Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and remaining upon Jesus Christ. In verse 33 John tells us that God sent him to baptize with water, and that “God told him “upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.” In verse 34 John testifies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
John 1:32-34
32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
The Gospel of the Grace of God – An Internal Dwelling
Today, we are given an internal dwelling of the Holy Spirit when we are saved by our belief of the gospel of the grace of God which is recorded in I Corinthians 15:1-4. Paul is writing to believers of the gospel of the grace of God in all of his thirteen (13) epistles. Below, are verses that confirm the indwelling Holy Spirit given to believers of the gospel of the grace of God, and some of the gifts of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
I Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
I Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
II Timothy 1:14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
In Romans 8:16-17 we are told that the Holy Spirit which indwells us bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God and joint-heirs with Christ.
Romans 8:16-17
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
In I Corinthians 12:13 we are told that the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the “body of Christ.”
I Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
In II Corinthians 1:22 we are told that God has sealed us and given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee of our salvation.
II Corinthians 1:22 Who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
The Future Millennial Kingdom – An Internal Dwelling
God will provide an internal dwelling of the Holy Spirit for the saved that enter into the future Millennial Kingdom. The saved that enter into the Millennial Kingdom are all those saved in the past before the dispensation of the grace of God and those saved by believing the gospel of the kingdom during the future Tribulation. This internal dwelling of God’s Holy Spirit will be the result of their being baptized with the Spirit. In Ezekiel 36:24-27 we are told that God will cleanse them of all of their filthiness, and give them a new heart and a new spirit to dwell within them and that He will put His Spirit within them.
Ezekiel 36:24-27
24 For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.
25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
In the New Testament we see two different gospels and two different types of dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Under the gospel of the kingdom, believers were given an external dwelling of the Holy Spirit. We who are saved by our belief of the gospel of the grace of God have been given an indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Our gospel of the grace of God is far superior to the gospel of the kingdom in that the Holy Spirit which indwells us can never be taken from us. God has promised us that once we have believed the gospel of the grace of God that we are saved forever. God promises us in Ephesians 1:13-14 that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of our redemption when we believe the gospel of the grace of God.
Ephesians 1:13-14
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
As we can clearly see, our gospel saves us “once and for all eternity.” As we can clearly see, our gospel is indeed “the gospel of grace of God.” Please do not let anyone cause you to believe otherwise.
